Computational Granular Mechanics Lab

We innovate research on granular media

Our Mission

The Computational Granular Mechanics Lab at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology endeavours to develop innovative theoretical and computational approaches to simulate the multiscale and multiphysics phenomena in granular materials and porous media to understand their physics and mechanics in the settings of engineering, industries, earth and planetary environments.

We have a strong drive in demystifying the emergence and evolution of complex static, transient and flow behaviours of granular media, in an ambience of multiphase interstitial fluids and subjected to coupled thermal, hydro, mechanical and chemical loading processes.

We strive to develop next-generation tools and theories to address emerging engineering challenges in civil, mechancial, mining, petroleum and chemical engineering and to offer innovative solutions for pharmaceutical and food industries and additive manufacturing. Our research interests also go beyond the blue planet to other planetary explorations.
